So it has been decided, so it shall be...
CONCACAF has announced the matchups for the 2011-12 CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals, which will be held in March before the inevitable First Kick match with the Montreal Impact -- and lo and behold, who do we draw?
The Los Angeles Galaxy.
Well, I guess it could have been worse: we could have ended up drawing the defending champions Monterrey (who has to face fellow Mexican side Morelia)! But still, the chance to get the satisfaction of beating Santos Laguna in the quarterfinals goes to the Seattle Sounders, while fellow Group C advancers Pumas get to play El Salvador's Isidro Metapan in the fourth quarter final.
Granted, we do get a chance to beat Santos in the semi-finals (providing they get past Seattle, and we are able to beat the Galaxy), but as a Toronto FC supporter, I feel a bit disappointed that we don't get the first crack at Santos Laguna. I just don't feel that the honour of rubbing a victory over Santos in Montreal's face should go to Seattle.
Okay, maybe it could be a good thing that we would be catching LA coming off its winter break, but we'd be in the same boat as well at the same time...in the end, the matchup could come down to who is the most ready, and who has done the better roster changes before the match begins. We can only hope that Aron Winter is already hard at work, trying to dig up more gems to lead us to continental glory.
Or so we hope, anyway.
But roll on to March, and let the chips fall where they may. It will be a long winter, but hey...I have a reason to wait for spring!
