Blas Perez #7 of Panama and Victor Turcios #5 of El Salvador battle for possession during the 2011 Gold Cup Quarterfinals on June 19, 2011 at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. Now Victor Turcios could be coming to TFC to do battle in the MLS.
As with basically all rumours that break about foreign players it can be really difficult to figure out how reliable they are. In this case there have been recent reports from Salvadorian media outlets that suggest El Salvadorian national team player Victor Turcios is set for a number of trials including one in Europe and another with Toronto FC on January 23rd.
The reports that I have been able to read so far suggest that if the 23 year old defender can not impress during his trial in Europe he would then come to TFC where he would follow in the foot steps of Amando Guevara who came to Toronto FC after working with the same agent that is reportedly setting up this trial for Turcios. Working with an agent who the club has a history with is nothing new as it played a role in the transfer that brings Reggie Lambe to the club for next season.
By all accounts I have read, in badly translated Spanish, the player seems primarily interested in a move to an Eastern European club and TFC is more of the backup plan. His trip to Europe will reportedly end on the 19th of January and then if he has to resort to plan B, he will head to Toronto on the 23rd for his training visit.
We all know that TFC is in need of defensive help and bringing in Turcios from Club Deportivo Águila could potentially offer a cheap solution to some of the issues. With Turcios making 8 appearances for his national team this year including 4 in the Gold Cup and 4 in World Cup qualifying he has experience at a decent level of play and could be primed to do well at the MLS level.
As of now there is no word from Toronto FC regarding the player and I don't expect any even if this rumour is true unless they end up signing him.
