Game thread: Toronto FC v FC Edmonton

Toronto FC v FC Edmonton

BMO Field, 8PM E.D.T

Sportsnet (followed by Vancouver V Montreal at 11pm, also on Sportsnet nationally)

It's the second leg of the Voyageur's cup semi-final, Toronto has a 3-0 lead from the first leg (see highlights here), so there shouldn't be too much drama.

But it's TFC so anything can happen, Hopefully Edmonton will decide they've got nothing to lose and will have a real go at TFC's shaky defence, while leaving themselves wide open at the back, leading to plenty of goals.  At the very least there should be some players you don't see often who'll be playing hard to impress and stake their claims for more playing time.

The more interesting game of the evening will probably be Vancouver v Montreal, as the first leg finished 1-0 to Vancouver so it's very much still up for grabs.  Unlike last week, these games are being played at different times and this game is also available live across the country on Sportsnet.

Here's all the usual links, My preview, Eightysix Forever valiantly trying to find reasons why Edmonton might win, and a preview and interviews with Aron Winter, Oscar Cordon and Matt Gold over at

If you read this before the game starts, why not join in the Waking the red TFC prediction league Are you smarter than Mo Johnston, and it wouldn't be a game thread recently without me badgering you to buy tickets for Canada v Ecuador.  Click the link on the right hand side of the page to do that, because Stephen Hart says so.

Finally, despite the impression I got last week, 'the Monties' isn't actually a legitimate FC Edmonton nickname, which is a shame, but I think I might keep calling them that anyway, too much fun not to.  They prefer to go by 'The Eddies', but for a list of team names they turned down before settling on FC Edmonton, check out the Yorkies

I'll be at BMO, hopefully aphid season is over, on my Blackberry so will have lineup's here before the start and I'll be here at half time and full time.  Feel free to talk among yourselves in the mean time.

 Come on you Reds!
