David Testo on Canada AM (1/16/2012)
I know it's not completely related to Toronto FC, but I feel this is an issue that will be with us for a good long while.
It's good to see David Testo taking the lead in helping to combat homophobia in sports -- now that he is fully out, it is a grand sight to see him helping in this method.
Keep fighting the good fight, David -- myself and the team here at Waking the Red are with you.
(P.S. The interview intro with Marci Ien starts at 6:00 in, if you want to cut all the outdated news out.)

I really think that Testo has done a great job with being a spokesman but has never been in anyone’s face about it all. Just seems like all he wanted to do was show the world who he really is for once and I respect that.

thanks for posting that, I had no idea.
good for him for doing all this, hopefully it won’t take too long until we’re all just saying meh! to this sort of thing, but for now it certainly takes some balls.
I know testo was dropped hy montreal, has he found another team yet? Is he trying to?

Last I heard he was without a club and retiring but maybe someone will give him a chance. He has to be smart about that as well and not be allowed to be uses as a side show. Seems smart though and would not let that happen.

Seems like a class guy, total respect – not easy being an athlete in any sport and coming out…although I don’t know why it’s still a big deal, I really respect those that are trying to remove the stigma – unwarranted though it is.
I can see why it remains a big deal. In fact sports is probably going to be the last area of society where it remains just because of the nature of the way you interact with teammates. It makes for a very tricky situation where you wish everyone could be comfortable but one cant be comfortable being forced to stay in the closet but others won’t be comfortable with an openly gay team mate.
Will take time and intelligent effort to change that fact but at least there is one person worth looking up to in that respect.
