I do not often listen to Extra Time Radio because for the most part I do not care for the personalities that are involved in the show and often the podcast can be very negative towards Toronto FC, even when it is actually not deserved. This week though the pod was brought to my attention because of something that Simon Borg said (yes the same guy who we all hated back in preseason for anti-TFC commentary) I would recap his comments but Alicia from over at the Goat Parade has done a much better job than I would in replying. As a woman, and a very good blogger, she takes justifiable issue with Simon saying that a female being a "super-fan" would be a turn off to most men. MLS is a growing league that still needs to grow its fan base so when people who they pay to speak on their behalf are saying such things (and as Alicia points out its not an isolated event) they are going to drive away female fans. Just look at the twitter account for Women United FC. The group is still fairly new and already has close to 1000 followers for an account built around female MLS fans. To me that says their are a lot of females interested in the league so Mr. Borg is being foolish making remarks that upset them. I know we have some female readers so how do you feel about what Borg is saying? What about the male readers? Would you date a girl who was as serious about soccer as you are?
