CONCACAF Champions League Schedule Revealed

Well at least we won't have to worry about seeing this again until the end of October. Until then bring on some more meaningful games!

After weeks of waiting with baited breath, or not so much, we have finally found out when Toronto's CONCACAF Champions League matches are going to be this summer. We knew the possible windows and we knew the teams in the group but now we know it all!

Toronto FC will compete in group one along with Santos Laguna and CD Aguila in the new smaller group stage format. The changes mean that only four games are being added to each club's schedule which will certainly be a welcome relief to an already crowded schedule for the MLS teams. It also means that each match is going to be that much more important as only the top club from each group will be moving on.

With that in mind, if TFC is going to have any hope of moving out of this group they will likely need to take all six available points from CD Aguila. That will start with their opening fixture when they host the club from El Salvador at BMO Field on Wednesday, August 1st at the traditional 8 PM kickoff. Their second match of the group stage will again be at BMO when Santos comes to town for a rematch of this past years CCL semifinal matchup on Tuesday, August 28.

The home date with Santos will be a match that many fans should be highlighting on their calendars. The last time the two teams met at BMO Field it was a fiery affair with some handbags late in the game. It is not likely that things will get as heated this time around but the whole group stage could really come down to this one match. If TFC can bag a win in this match then it would really put the pressure on Santos and give the Reds a chance of moving on. A loss though and TFC would almost certainly be looking at having to find a win in Mexico and that is always a very difficult task.

Toronto then wraps up the group stage with their road matches. The first is a trip to El Salvador on Tuesday, September 25 and the second being that trip to Santos to conclude things on Wednesday, October 24. It is a favourable schedule for Toronto FC with two home games to start and the toughest game of the bunch saved for the last day. That means that if they can take care of Aguaila the worst case scenario should be that they are have to get a win in Mexico to try and move on, and even if they struggle against Santos in both meetings they should have meaningful games all the way until late October.

It should be noted that this year TFC will have two games on Tuesday nights rather than the traditional Wednesday night that we have become used to for CCL matches. There is also the Aguila away leg that will take place at 10 ET while the other games are all going to be at 8.
