Canada WNT to play France April 4th

France will probably want some revenge for this happening in London - Canadian Soccer Association Flikr

The Canadian Women's National team continues to add impressive opposition to its 2013 calendar with the latest being a confirmed date with France on April 4th.

2013 is shaping up to be a busy year for Canada's women as the team has added yet another game to their growing schedule. Add in the return of professional women's soccer in North America with the NWSL and there will certainly be no shortage of games for Canada's top female players this year.

The latest game to be confirmed on the schedule is a date with France on April 4th. It is a game that Canadian fans will be looking for as a chance to relive the glory of the Olympics. It the match against the USWNT is about going out for revenge over the semifinal defeat than this game against France is about celebrating the bronze medal win.

The other side of the coin is of course that France will be coming out looking to get revenge on Canada for that smash and grab win in the bronze medal game. It was a match that France bossed for much of the time before Diana Matheson popped up to slot home an injury time winner on a rare Canadian chance. France were probably deserving of a medal on the run of play but it is Canada that has been celebrating since the end of the London games.

Canada is currently gearing up for the Cyprus Cup which gets underway on March 6th. During that event they have dates with Switzerland, Finland, and the Netherlands which will hopefully be followed by date in the final with the winner of group A which includes England, Italy, New Zealand, and Scotland.

France, the holders of the Cyprus Cup, are not taking part in the event this year so Canada will not get the chance to avenge their lose to France in last years final. That will have to wait until the European tour in April which I am sure is just fine with Canada.

In the history of the Cyprus Cup Canada has never finished worse than second place having won three titles and come in second on two occasions. It may not be the most prestigious event in women's soccer but this year's field includes a number of nations that are looking to rise up the ranks in the women's game so should provide tough opposition for a Canadian team that is looking to retool before the 2015 World Cup.

After the Cyprus Cup the Canadian players will begin to prepare for the season with their NWSL clubs before getting back together for another trip to Europe in April. The game against France will be on April 4th and will be followed by a game against England on the 7th.

Canada also has games confirmed against the United States on June 2nd at BMO Field in Toronto and a date with Germany for June 19th at a yet to be announced venue.

With Canada looking to still add a few more home dates to the calendar for the summer and fall there will certainly be no lack of action for the National team. It is nice to see them getting together so often and taking on the best sides in the World to ensure that come 2015 they are ready to battle for the top spot.
