2014 Toronto FC Season Schedule

It was nice to see the MLS season schedule released earlier than previous years on November 25. I noticed TFC's home games had TBD for their kick off times whereas all of their away games already had the times determined (minus Montreal). I didn't think too much about it then in November since it was early, but the times for the home games are still not posted yet: http://www.torontofc.ca/schedule. I don't see a reason for the delay. It's not really important, but I am just curious. Any ideas?

Also, what do you guys think about TFC's home opener being at BMO Field vs Rogers Centre? I know there's been some discussion within the comments of other WTR articles. Here are a few of my thoughts:

  • We were notified much earlier last year that the home opener would be at Rogers Centre. However, season ticket renewals were pushed back this year. In addition, the 2014 home opener is 2 weeks later than last season (March 22 vs March 9) so maybe they aren't considering the dome.
  • There hasn't been this much excitement and demand surrounding TFC since the beginning and the CCL game vs LA Galaxy under the dome. It would be nice to see over 30,000 fans come out for the home opener to capitalize on this... and potentially grow the fan base too. MLSE will also like to recoup some money from their big investments in Defoe and Bradley, and this would be a simple way. Most importantly, the weather can still be highly unpredictable in late March so choosing the dome may be a wise decision. With all this being said, the biggest con is the quality of the field compared to BMO Field. If they decide to use turf like last year, I don't think I would support going to Rogers Centre since it increases the risk of injury for our players especially since this would mean they would have to play two straight games on turf (season opener is on turf in Seattle on March 15). If they can use grass like they did for the Brazil vs Chile friendly, that would be great even though the temporary field is obviously still inferior to BMO Field but is the best option if the game is held under the dome.

Can't wait for the season to kick off!
