Michael Orr is in a bit of a rare position of following both MLS and A League closely enough to be able to comment on either league so when Jeremy Brockie was loaned to Toronto FC he decided to write about the relationship between the two leagues. The article includes comments on the loan move from Wellington Phoenix's GM, David Dome, and goes a bit deeper into the relationship between the leagues and now the clubs.
The former German international reflects on his time in the MLS and looks ahead at what the future holds.
I know it's the Sun, but Wambach's comments certainly don't help mend any fences.
Nana Attakora, Dan Gargan, and Ty Harden all kept out the Sounders for a San Jose clean sheet. Though of all of them, Attakora's the only one I was sad to see go.
Steve Sandor over on the11.ca has been doing some digging about Don Garber's comments regarding the domestic player rule and why it cannot be expanded to include Canadians as domestics. His latest talked to an immigration expert and concludes that US immigration law is not the issue here. It is well worth a read for people interested in putting pressure on MLS to provide a better reason for not treating Canadians as equals.
"I believe the Children are our future" said Whitney Houston, "2 out of 3 ain't bad" said Meatloaf. Put the two of them together and you have TFC Academy's weekend at the Annandale Premier Cup in Northern Virginia. Three teams went down there to play, under the watchful eye of Thomas Rongen, the U16s, the U15s and the U13s, and two of them ended up winning the title at their respective age groups. To find out which two were successful, with a lot more detail but a lot fewer cheesy references, click the link above for the full article.
Apparently what we'd always suspected IS actually true: TFC had MLSE's money and little else. "No scouting, no recruiting, no structure, no...." According to Nelsen. I trust him and KP a damn sight more than I did the previous regime. C.
My latest for Sportsnet. It'll be a long year with plenty of room for negativity and cynicism, let's at least start off looking for the positives for the first game. There were actually quite a few of them, mainly from new players showing some promise and the coaches looking good, at least in the first half.
Guess we now know who KP was talking about when he went off about out of shape players. Look at the size of Danny Califf!
