"There must be some kind of way out of here," said the joker to the thief,
"There's too much confusion, I can't get no relief.
Businessmen they drink my wine, plowmen dig my earth,
None will level on the line, nobody offered his word.
"No reason to get excited," the thief he kindly spoke,
"There are many here among us who feel that life is but a joke.
But you and I, we've been through that, and this is not our fate!
So let us not talk falsely now, the hour is getting late."
- "All Along The Watchtower", Bob Dylan
Is Ryan Nelsen the way out of our predicament? If new TFC president Kevin Payne is to be believed, yes. Over the weekend, the rumours went from Nelsen coming to MLS, then to DC United, then definitively not to DC, so maybe joining his old mate Kevin Payne at TFC as an assistant. Then yesterday they jumped sharply in importance, to him being the new head coach, replacing Paul Mariner.
This will of course be Nelsen's first official kick of the can at coaching, and a greenhorn coaching a big league team is sure to cause consternation, bewilderment and stupefaction, especially when that team is TFC that has struggled from its inception and already had more than it's fair share of rookie coaches. But for some, it will likely be a relief that the era of Paul Mariner is finally over, and that a new era has begun. How will the new coach handle the big names like the Torsten Frings and the Danny Koevermans while mentoring the young guns like Doneil Henry and Ashtone Morgan? Those are questions that will be asked and hopefully answered if not today, then in the days and weeks to come.
But do join us here starting at around 9:30am ET (7:30am MT) for all the details. Dave Rowaan and Kristin Knowles will be your hosts for this one -- so join us as we discover what we can about TFC's eighth coach in seven seasons. If you can watch the stream, it's available here.
