No Dorothy, we're not in Kansas any more. In fact, you're under a big dome in Toronto. Sporting KC helps open TFC's home season, and we have THE open thread for you!
Toronto FC vs. Sporting Kansas City
2013 MLS Season, Game 2
1:30pm ET/11:30am MT, March 9, 2013
Skydome, Toronto, Ontario
TSN, RDS
At last, the home opener is at hand, and what a way to open the home season: a match on the fake turf of Skydome, against last year's Eastern Conference semi-finalists Sporting KC. Sure, they may have had their troubles with the whole Livestrong thing, but hey, they've seemed not to have done too badly.
The good news for TFC fans: there's no Roger Espinoza, Kei Kamara and even Teal Bunbury, which has put SKC coach Peter Vermes in a nice bind. But they still do have the likes of Aurelien Collin. Claudio Bieler and Oriol Rosell. And don't forget CJ Sapong, and newly acquired Benny Feilhaber. They've lost a few names since last season, but they're still as dangerous as ever, and if their 3-1 win last week against Philly is any indication, they've not lost much of their step.
But which Reds will come out against the Kansans? Hogan Ephraim and Robert Earnshaw were impressive in their MLS debuts, and Kyle Bekker, despite some wayward kicking, likely warrants a starting XI slot too, depending on where John Bostock will end up. Will Julio Cesar and Luis Silva make their 2013 debut too? That of course will depend on the injury picture. Joe Bendik is getting the start again with Stefan Frei still a few weeks away, and the back four of O'Dea, Califf, Morgan and Eckersley won't change -- it'll be up to Ryan Nelsen to keep the composure, and that will likely determine the result, for which good ones could net you some awesome prizes.
