An Open Letter To Sepp Blatter

Waking The Red's westerner asks Sepp Blatter why Christine Sinclair's comments against the officiating is so offensive to FIFA award voters.

Sinclair, Herdman Not Finalists for FIFA Awards

Canadian soccer fans this morning are once again up in arms as despite a bronze medal winning performance at the London Olympics, Christine Sinclair and John Herdman are not named finalists in the 2012 FIFA Awards. We have the story, and reactions.

Stop The Celebrations!

Waking the Red's western correspondent declares Vancouver's playoff appearance as an exercise in futility, and not an example for TFC to follow.

David Testo's tell-all interview with SB Nation

This has been a subject that we here at Waking The Red have covered on and off throughout the last year or so, and this story is particularly striking especially to myself. David Testo's coming-out is now a well-known story on both sides of the border, but very little detail of his past has really emerged -- until now. Leander Schaerlaeckens' piece highights his career, and offers an example of what we could potentially do for an openly gay TFC player. Seriously guys, it can happen...David Testo has laid out what we can do to help.

Canada's Women's U-20 Crashes; Hope Springs Despite That

Okay, so the U-20 women's team crashed out of the World Cup. We demand more, but we can't forget that there were good things too. Waking the Red's western correspondent adds his two cents into the matter.

WTR Live! for Santos Laguna match

It's Tuesday night, and you don't have Sportsnet ONE. That or you're working...either way, you can't watch the clash, but you DO have a computer, and can watch live text commentary. That's where you'd be in luck -- WTR Live returns Tuesday night with live coverage via our lovely CoverItLive applet, and this time we've got a special guest commentator: Alicia Ratteree, from SB Nation's The Goat Parade and FMF State of Mind, will be my co-commentator. So join us starting at 7:45pm Eastern Time on Tuesday night -- it'll be fun on a bun, Mexican style!

WTR Live! Olympic Edition: This Saturday!

The Olympic women's football tournament is about to kick off, and we here at Waking the Red are excited for Canada -- sure, they've got Japan and Sweden, but what about South Africa? So that's why we will be hosting a very special Olympic Edition of WTR Live on Saturday morning for the South Africa match, starting at 9:30AM ET (7:30am MT), regardless if the game will be fully live on CTV or not. Also, we will be giving away one of two Christine Sinclair jerseys (courtesy of our friends at Umbro) during the match -- so if that isn't enough incentive to get up early to watch the game and chat with us, then I don't know what is! Email reminders for the event can be set at the link above...trust me, this is one clash you DON'T want to miss!

Better Know Your Olympic Enemies, Part 3: Sweden

A huge test is coming up for the Canadian women's team -- closing out the group stages against Sweden. Winning will make all the difference in the world; Waking the Red looks at what Canada should be looking out for.

Best Case, Worst Case: Canadian Women's Path to Gold

Canada has never medalled at Olympic women's soccer, despite its high FIFA ranking. Can they break this duck in London? Waking the Red looks at the possibilities.
