Game Thread. Toronto FC v Philadelphia Union

PPL Park, Philadelphia, 4 PM EST
TSN

This game is a tough one to say much about just because in its very nature it is hard to know who is going to be playing for Toronto FC. I think that when we do get the lineups close to kickoff time we will end up seeing a fair few of the regular names but hopefully not all of them. I would love to see that the boys who were away on internationals are not starting today as they could use the rest. For the others though, unless they are carrying some sort of knock, I think the match time will be good for getting them back sharp. If anyone is rested for this entire game then it will have been over 2 weeks since they last played and that is not a good way to go in to the biggest game of the season on Tuesday.

Most of us will be watching this match tonight with one eye firmly focused on the FC Dallas game. This game still has meaning in terms of the Eastern conference standings so I expect Toronto FC to put in a professional display despite being eliminated from the playoffs. I also expect TFC to show some pride and try to do a lot better than that 6-2 defeat they suffered last time out against the Union.

So what can we expect today? Ideally a few players rested (Dunfield and DeGuzman) then a few only playing 45 (Frings and Koevermans) some players get a short run out to return from injury (Plata) and a few players receiving a boost of confidence (Johnson and whoever is in goal). Then in this ideal world we get a decent score line and more importantly the 90 minutes come and go with no new injuries to be concerned about.
