So we don't have a whole lot right now, but kudos to Luke Wileman for breaking this on Twitter. Apparently Stefan Frei is headed to Liverpool for a training stint, the length is unknown but one can assume it's for a few weeks, until Toronto FC's own training camp starts up. Paul Beirne also confirmed Frei's Fantastic adventure last night. And since this has been published, Torontofc.ca have confirmed it as well.
This is not uncommon this MLS off season, as many of our bright young stars are going overseas to train with the big guys. Frei also joins Juan Agudelo, who's at Liverpool training as well.
This is clearly a great experience for Super Stefan, but I would not (I repeat would not!) look too much into this. It's the off season, so we're going to have people flipping out when anything happens, but this is nothing more than Stefan going over and training with a world class side during the off season. I expect a bunch of Liverpool/ TFC supporters to all have an "inside edge" or "gut feeling" that Stefan will make the jump to Anfield but I just don't see that one in the cards.
So what do you guys think about this decision? Tired of seeing MLS players fly overseas, all starry eyed, to practice with EPL teams? Are you happy that a great keeper like Frei is getting to learn and train with one of the most legendary clubs in Europe? Or maybe you think Stefan's pulling a Dero. Let the over the top, no sources attached, speculation begin!
