Oh, if there's one thing I hang onto that gets me through the night.
I ain't gonna do what I don't want to, I'm gonna live my life.
Shining like a diamond, rolling with the dice,
Standing on the ledge, I show the wind how to fly.
When the world gets in my face, I say, "Have a nice day."- "Have a Nice Day", Bon Jovi
Here we are folks...the last game of the Olympic women's football tournament for Canada. We've defied the odds just being here, and perhaps with a little bit more luck, would probably be playing in the later game. Still, what's done is done -- and now the Canadian women still have a chance to win bronze.
But a certain Eugenie Le Sommer doesn't think so -- in a recent interview, she says Canada "fears the way France plays". She might have a point, since the French have won their last two meetings by a combined scoreline of 6-0; but in the heat of an Olympic Games, anything and everything can happen; and Mademoiselle Le Sommer could be ending up eating some humble pie at the end of it.
Good news on the FIFA front: they have decided (sensibly, a rarity within FIFA) to not go through with Canadian player sanctions until after the bronze medal match: that means all players are available -- including Candace Chapman, who was an unused sub during the USA game. Otherwise, we aren't expecting John Herdman to make any major changes to the lineup.
