Toronto FC have been talking about making a big name signing this week and there is now a clear front runner. There is no official word but Tim Bezbetchanko talked with some members of the media on Tuesday and told them that they could be announcing a DP level signing as early as the end of this week.
Shortly after that one of the club's targets was spotted taking in a little NBA action between the Toronto Raptors and the San Antonion Spurs at the Air Canada Centre according to Cathal Kelly:
TFC's Brazilian DP target Gilberto will be sitting in Larry Tanenbaum's courtside seats at tonight's Raptors game.

Kelly is the same man who first reported TFC's interest in the Brazilian Gilberto suggesting that a deal was close to being completed. There is no photographic proof yet of Gilberto in the crowd but if he is sitting front row that will hopefully come soon.
If Gilberto is indeed set to sign later this week he would be the first of the club's two new DPs and likely the younger of the pair at 24 years of age. He would be in position to move from Brazil to Toronto in January making him available for the full 2014 season which would be a big boost for TFC.
No deal is done yet but if Gilberto is physically in the city of Toronto that is a very good sign.
Update: Pics because it did happen!

Good to see Drake living up to that ambassador role. I wonder if Gilberto actually knows who he is? Is Drake a big deal in Brazil?
