After a few hours of good WTF fun on twitter, Toronto FC confirmed this afternoon that they have traded Maximiliano Urruti to the Portland Timbers. Here's the link, at least this time they didn't superimpose a TFC jersey on to the picture of Dike yelling like they did with Urruti.
We already knew about Dike, but the full deal is as follows. Urruti and an international spot until the end of this season to Portland. Dike, Portland's 2015 1st round SuperDraft pick, and yes, everyone's favourite, allocation money coming back to Toronto.
The website touts him as 'Nigerian international Bright Dike', which I guess is technically correct, though he's played once for Nigeria, in a friendly, so you know, best not to go overboard on that aspect of it.
That will be the 3rd pick TFC has in the first round (their own, and Chivas USA's in the Bocanegra deal) at least until they trade it away for something dumb, so that is another useful piece to ease the confusion a little bit, as is the funny money. Of course we'll never know how much allocation money was received, but I'm going to guess it's less than we had to give Newell's Old Boys to drop their contractual objections back when we signed Urruti all those many moons ago.
And so the strange strange Urruti saga comes to a close, at least until next season when he undoubtedly comes to BMO Field and scores against us. Read all the updates over the months right here. Totally worth it.
