Toronto FC hunting striker Daniele Cacia

According to a report from Italy, TFC are in talks with the Hellas Verona striker.

Well, they said they weren't done, and apparently bloody big deal laurel resting time was minimal as TFC are once again sniffing round Italy. Gianluca Di Marzio, Sky Sports' man in Italy and a name you probably remember from all the Alberto Gilardino rumours has put out a bare bones report linking them to Verona striker Daniele Cacia (english google translate version here). Apparently they're talking about a 3 year deal.

I'll not pretend to know anything about him, or even having heard of him before today, so let's embrace our inner Paul Mariner and see what wikipedia and Soccerway have to say.  Well, he played for Italy's under 17 and under 19 teams and seems to have spent most of his time in Serie B, with lots of loan spells to different clubs over the years. He's pulled in transfer fees of 4m, 3m, 2,9m and 1.1m Euros in his career, though his latest move from Lecce to Verona was on a free.   He had a big part to play in Verona's promotion to Serie A, scoring 24 goals in 39 games in the 2012/13 season. The promotion to Serie A hasn't worked well for him though as he's currently goalless in just 283 minutes of play this season.

So, does well in Serie B, not good enough for Serie A. That sounds like he could do ok in MLS, but importantly not demand huge wages, especially as he'd be a depth striker behind Jermain Defoe and Gilberto, fighting with Bright Dike for backup time, probably reliant on Defoe going to the World Cup to be getting any type of consistent play.

Finally, to youtube! Here's him scoring a hat trick against Varese, the 2nd goal is the more impressive, but it's the first 2 that showcase what look like more repeatable skills, with some very nice finishing.

I'll finish up with a link to another highlight video, his 2011-12 season.  Chances are this won't come to anything as they haven't even talked to the club about him yet so there's a long way to go, but Di Marzio's a reputable source so I'd say there's definitely something to the tire kicking at least.
