The Not So Daily Red: October 9th

New, 14 comments

The Reds lose a heartbreaker at home, Dynamo are upset about the red card shown, TFC use try to use math to determine their playoff chances, Landon Donovan prepares for his last USMNT start, is there still a chance for TFC to make the playoffs?, and the Crew come out with a new logo.

Guess who's back? Back again! The (Not so) Daily Red is back and it comes at a difficult and disappointing time for us Reds fans. If you decided to not watch the game last night because the Toronto Maple Leafs were playing and you shut off all notifications on your phone and PVRed the game, this may be a spoiler for you, Toronto FC lost 1-0 to the Houston Dynamo, who came into this game four points away from the Reds for that last playoff spot.  Also, the Dynamo came into BMO having only won two road games all season.

The Reds didn't play awful, Dynamo goalie Tyler Deric was just having a great game with some big saves to keep his side in it.  The Dynamo were also missing their two best defenders to international duty, and TFC still couldn't manage to get through that back line.  However, the team did play a good game and the Dynamo just wanted the win more.  They played solid defence and stopped multiple breaks.

Anyways, lets try to forget this game.  TFC still have three games remaining and are still in the playoff hunt. The next game against the Red Bulls on Saturday will be the biggest game yet and wins in these last three games could see them make the playoffs.

Toronto FC 0, Houston Dynamo 1 | MLS Match Recap

Heres a quick recap of how the Dynamo took away three points from the starving TFC last night.

New York Test

TFC has a HUGE game coming up against the Red Bulls, who sit in fourth and are four points up on the Reds.  TFC head coach Greg Vanney says the margin of error is as big as the deficit TFC lost last night, one.  The Reds will need to win all three of their next upcoming games to make the playoffs, two wins and a tie wouldn't hurt, but winning two and losing one could spell an end to their playoff hopes.

Houston Dynamo's David Horst disagrees with decision to send off AJ Cochran in win over Toronto FC

A lot of people, mostly Dynamo fans were stunned to find that rookie centre back AJ Cochran was given a red card for pulling down TFC forward Luke Moore.  In my opinion, I don't see it as a red card, but did see it as a penalty shoot. But it didn't really matter in the end since the Reds couldn't take down a 10 man side for 42 minutes.

MLS Playoff Scenarios for Week 31: Four teams can clinch spots this weekend

If you're feeling confused about how the race to the MLS playoffs is going to end, well look no further because mlssoccer.com has you covered.  They didn't really focus on TFC, and didn't even mention how they would make the playoffs. Probably because all they can do is win now, but it's interesting to see how the rest of the playoff picture pans out. So far, only DC, Seattle and LA are in the playoffs, so a lot of spots are up for grabs.

Remembering Landon Donovan's storied USMNT career through stories, photos, videos | SIDELINE

On Friday night, Landon Donovan will be suiting up for the national team he has carried for the past 14 years.  Although not being named to this year's World Cup squad, he still is the United States best player with 156 caps and 57 goals.  The US will face Ecuador on October 10th and Honduras on the 14th.

With new crest unveiled, Columbus Crew owner Anthony Precourt wants change in attitude, too

Looks like the Columbus Crew are getting a new design.  The team is now known as Columbus Crew SC, adding the SC will hopefully help them in a way.  New owner Anthony Precourt isn't too happy with how the team has been playing this year, they are three points ahead of TFC for that coveted last playoff spot.  Maybe TFC should change it's name and logo to hopefully change their luck and win some games.
