While it was never incredibly likely, it doesn't seem like Toronto FC will be getting any pieces of the dispersing Chivas USA. MLS released the order for the Dispersal Draft today, and Toronto FC will be picking in the 14th spot. Teams can evidently pass on picks, letting players drop further in the draft, but there were never very many quality options in the first place. The draft is set to take place on November 19 at 4 PM Eastern.
All reports seem to indicate that the main player of interest on Chivas USA last season, Erick Torres, will not be involved in the draft. The most likely occurrence is that Torres will leave the league for Mexico, in accordance with rumours. If that doesn't happen, the league will likely buy him and distribute his rights to teams in the same completely understandable fashion as, say, they did with Michael Bradley, Clint Dempsey and Jermaine Jones. So there's still a chance he could end up in Toronto, but it's highly unlikely unless Gilberto actually does depart the team.
The only factor that makes Toronto selecting a player in this draft in any way likely, is Greg Vanney. Toronto's coach spent time as an assistant with Chivas in 2012 and therefore will have some inside knowledge of the team and its players. He likely has a couple of players that he is hoping will drop into his hands. But this likely relies on a lot of teams ahead of Toronto taking a pass instead of making a selection.
The full order for the draft is below, FC Dallas has been given the first overall pick. The draft order was based on a draw, with Orlando City SC and New York City FC having slightly better odds than the rest at picking higher.
