Toronto FC to select 6th in Phase One of the MLS Re-Entry Draft

There may not be a lot of activity in the Re-Entry draft on Friday but there are some names that could be interesting to Toronto FC with their sixth overall selection. There are also a number of TFC players available for selection.

The second (or is it third) draft of the offseason is nearly here as Friday will see MLS conduct the first phase of the Re-entry draft.  Toronto FC will have the sixth pick in the draft and will most likely wind up passing because that is what teams tend to do at this draft.

There were some players taken last year though so on the off chance that TFC are among the active teams it is certainly worth taking a look of the list of available players that the league released on Thursday.  If TFC do claim a player in this phase of the draft they will have to pick up that player's option or extend them a bona fide contract offer as outlined in the soon to be expired CBA.

Of the players available some of the names that standout on the list include former TFC players like Nana Attakora, Marvel Wynne, and Nathan Sturgis.  None of the trio is likely worth selecting though given the dollar figures attached but they could move in the second phase.

There is also the likes of Adam Moffat, Chandler Hoffman, Stephen McCarthy, Danny O'Rourke, and Mauro Rosales who could be worth a look.  None of the group is coming off their strongest season but they have all showed the ability to be a contributor in this league.  Again, the issue for most of them is going to be the price that comes with taking them in the first phase.

The final note of interest is the players who have elected to opt out of the re-entry draft.  That list included some of the more interesting potential targets like Eriq Zavaleta, Nick LaBrocca, Alex, and Connor Casey.  They are joined in opting out by Bright Dike who is currently out of contract with TFC and may be looking for options outside of the league.
