Fantasy Free-Kick Week 10

World Cup squad announcements are here and they are going to play a big role in fantasy. Be a step ahead and prepare for the upcoming absences.

Once again I'll start with a warning, there's a midweek game, between Sporting Kansas City and Philadelphia Union who both have a double game week, so get your transfers in early. Talking of transfers they're unlimited this week and a bunch of stars will be missing time for the World Cup, so plan accordingly.

The WTR Fantasy league has settled down in recent weeks with Canadian Bacons sitting on top for the fifth week in a row. The Duncan’s (Jamieson and Fletcher) remain on the podium this week however they did flip positions. With only a five point lead over Waking The Red’s own Duncan Fletcher Round 11 will be the first chance for someone to dethrone Matt Train in some time. With a whopping 123 points Jo Jo Adrenaline claims their second weekly scoring title of the season. Jo Jo Adrenaline played a starting lineup with eight double week players complimented with Eric Torres, Graham Zusi and Lloyd Sam. The decision to captain Obafemi Martins over Clint Dempsey was a move that paid off, though not as much had the armband gone to Brad Davis or Michel who scored 17 and 19 points respectively.

With the World Cup squads being announced last week and this week it is imperative to get your squad lined up properly to cope with all of the absences that will be forth coming. Here is a quick list of players who were named to their national team squads. Some (see Jermain Defoe) may not actually miss time and please note this is not a full list as teams are still being announced so keep your eyes peeled.

- Julio Cesar – TFC (Brazil)

- Jermain Defoe – TFC (England)

- Michael Bradley – TFC (USA)

- Victor Bernardez – SJ (Honduras)

- Oscar Boniek Garcia – HOU (Honduras)

- Martin Chavez – CHI (Honduras)

- Jerry Bengston – NE (Honduras)

- Steven Beitashour – VAN (Iran)

- Giancarlo Gonzalez – CLB (Costa Rica)

- Waylon Francis – CLB (Costa Rica)

- Roy Miller – NY (Costa Rica)

- Alvaro Saborio – RSL (Costa Rica)

- Jairo Arrieta – CLB (Costa Rica)

- Tim Cahill - NY (Australia)

There's also a large amount of players missing on US squad duty, which you can check out here.

You have unlimited transfers this week so set up your team accordingly to manage through this stretch.

Here are a few other things to keep in mind while you are making your transfers this week.

Philadelphia and Kansas City both have double game weeks this round. DC, Houston, LA and Dallas have double games in Round 12. Portland, Chivas and Kansas City have double weeks in Round 13. Salt Lake, Columbus, Colorado, and Chicago have double in Round 14 before the World Cup break.

A few players that may feel burned by their national coaches and turn those feelings into fantasy points for you are Jermain Defoe, Obafemi Martins and Eddie Johnson. Defoe was the only one named to the 30 man squad but all indications are that he will not be going to Brazil. The other two were left off their managers list completely. Oba has been streaking for quite some time now but will now be missing Dempsey, Yedlin and Brad Evans from his team. Eddie Johnson’s omission struck a cord with many US Soccer followers on Twitter yesterday, as it appears that Julian Green was included in the squad at Johnson’s expense. EJ has scored exactly zero goals and one assist this season despite playing in eight of DC’s nine games. Johnson should not be owned by anyone but if you are a gambler and want to roll the dice with $9.4m EJ has every reason to turn his frustrations into something productive.
