Canada vs USA. Preview/Game Thread.

One again the CanWNT are taking on the old enemy, USWNT, this time in Winnipeg.

Here we go again. It's two very familiar teams that will be playing against each other in Winnipeg tonight as Canada take on the US again in their first home game of 2014. There will be a bit more variety coming up as there are also games planned against Germany and Japan, which should all be very tough tasks and give us an idea of just where Canad stands when compared to some of the World's best teams with the world cup a year away.

This is of course the 3rd friendly between the 2 teams in the last year or so, with the US winning the rematchiest rematch in the history of rematches 3-0 at BMO Field last year, followed by a closer game this January in Frisco. That game saw the Canadian defence, helped out  by the coaching of Jason de Vos, almost hold on for a 0-0 draw, absorbing a lot of pressure without giving up many chances until a late goal from Sydney bloody Leroux got the 1-0 win for the yanks.

Can Canada take that next step and keep a clean sheet? Perhaps they might even score a goal this time? One thing that may help with that is the return of Melissa Tancredi who's back playing regular football with Chicago in the NWSL, though it's unlikely she'll play the full 90 minutes. If she can occupy the US defence as well as she did in the Olympic semi final back in 2012, that would create the space for Christine Sinclair or whoever else may be playing up front to capitalise on. However it happens, finding a reliable source of goals remains Joh Herdman's biggest task ahead of next year's World Cup.

That World Cup is of course the reason why Canada are playing more games across the country last year and this and it seems like Winnipeg are taking their chance enthusiastically as reports are that over 25,000 tickets have been sold for this one. Winnipeg is of course Desiree Scott's hometown and she's been very involved in promoting the game, as well as this fun and remarkably garish t shirt for a good cause.

We'll have commentary through the game here so join us for that, the full squad is below and here's a video preview from the CSA's Gavin Day. I do like the jerseys they're wearing with the tow tone red hoops, it's very FC Dallas but I like it.
