Are you smarter than Paul Mariner?: Round 28

New, 40 comments

Another playoff hopeful team that is hot on the heals of TFC comes to town. Can TFC pull out the win this time around or will the home crowd leave with a sour taste in their mouth once again? Post your predictions. Smarter Than Mariner is back!

Stew Milne-USA TODAY Sports

"Hey! Wait up!"

A phase that many of us shouted out to our friends when we were young is basically what the six teams behind TFC in the standings have been shouting over the past few weeks. Like any good friend would do TFC has halted their climb up the standings to allow the pack to catch up to them. Now tied with Columbus, just two points ahead of New York and a measly three points away from being on the outside looking in it is time for TFC to pick up the pace once again.

One of the teams just three points behind them visit BMO this weekend. New England is coming off of a 1-0 win against Chivas last weekend but there is much bigger news from Massachusetts. For the second week in a row TFC’s opponent will be calling in the cavalry. Last week Chicago brought in Robert Earnshaw just before the match and it worked out for the visitors as Earnshaw left his mark on the game. This week New England bring in US international Jermaine Jones hoping for the same.

What makes this game even more important is that this match is the last before an international window. An already patchwork TFC defense is set to lose starting centre back Doneil Henry for a crucial back to back with Philadelphia next week. Full points from the New England match are a must if TFC is to hold onto their current position in the standings.

Will the Reds come out strong and dictate the match? Will Jermaine Jones be as influential as Earnshaw was last week? Will the recently recalled Ryan Richter see significant minutes? Post your predictions below or tweet your predictions to me, @Stouffvillain to ensure that your entry is accurately logged. As always 2 points for the correct result, 1 point for the correct TFC score and 1 point for the correct opponent score. Here are the up to date results.
