Canada is gearing up for another CONCACAF Championships with Sean Fleming naming his roster for the Under-17 event which kicks off later this month.  The team will looking to do much better than the U20 squad fared earlier this year and book themselves a spot in the U17 World Cup.

The roster of 20 players is dominated by Toronto FC academy and Vancouver Whitecaps residency players with the two programs combining to contribute 15 players.  The suprising absence from the squad is the Montreal Impact academy as there are no players with connections to that club on the final roster and there is only one player from Quebec that made the final cut.

TFCA will be represented by a total of 9 players with Borgan Engbers, Gabriel Boakye, Dante Campbell, Andrew Dias, Tristan Borges, Aidan Daniels, Rich Ennin, Malik Johnson, and Cyrus Rollocks all being included by Fleming.  The club will be represented in every single position on the squad with several players likely to be regulars in the starting lineup.

The squad will head down to San Pedro Sula, Honduras for the Championships which kick off later this month where they have been drawn in to what appears to be the tougher of the two groups.  Like we saw in the U20 event the team will have to finish top of the group to book a direct ticket to the World Cup in Chile.  If they finish second or third they would go to a playoff with the winners of the two playoff games claiming the final two World Cup spots.

Canada will open up against Haiti on February 28th, before playing Costa Rica on March 3rd, Mexico on the 6th, Saint Lucia on the 9th, and finishing up against Panama on the 12th.  It will certainly be a tough five matches for the team with three of their opponents in the group being serious contenders for spots in the U17 World Cup.

It should be a good test for the young Canadian team as they look to build on the third place finish from the previous cycle.  They are also looking to qualify for the Under 17 World Cup for the third straight cycle having qualified in both 2011 and 2013.
