Toronto FC vs. New York Red Bulls
7:30 PM Eastern, Bradenton, FL
Normally, as preseason gets into its later stages it becomes obvious what the lineup will look like when the season starts. In an attempt to give the main roster more of a chance to play together, teams usually field their best teams for the last few games. That is not the case for Toronto FC, who have already announced they will be playing a team consisting mostly of their bench players when they play the New York Red Bulls in their second last preseason game tonight.
In that regard, who Toronto intends to start in their March 7 opener against the Vancouver Whitecaps will be evident based on who doesn't play. That means this game likely won't provide another opportunity for Toronto FC fans to catch a glimpse of Jozy Altidore, Sebastian Giovinco, Damien Perquis or Benoit Cheyrou.
However, considering New York appear primed to play its starters, it will provide a lot of players with a chance to make a case for themselves. Particularly of interest will be the play of youngsters like Jordan Hamilton and Jay Chapman, who will be trying to spend as much time as possible with the big club this season. It should also be a chance for Alex Bono to demonstrate why he was the best goaltender in the draft class and solid prospect for the American national team.
Toronto FC are fresh off their first win of the preseason, which came in a 1-0 victory over Danish side HB Koge. Jonathan Osorio scored the lone goal of the game, and so far the lone goal of Toronto FC's preseason. The game was, however, a more complete performance from the team that indicated progress.
Toronto FC's last game on the preseason will come on Saturday. The opponent and time for that match is not yet known, although one would assume it has come out in the next couple of days.
