Late Goal Gives Seattle Sounders Unconvincing Win Over Toronto FC

Toronto FC came minutes away from earning an unlikely draw on the road against the Seattle Sounders, but couldn't hold on to earn any away points.

Jennifer Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

Toronto FC thought they had done enough to earn a point against the Seattle Sounders tonight, but it wasn't to be. A late goal from Clint Dempsey saw Seattle to an important 2-1 win that kept them in a playoff position. While Toronto was without Sebastian Giovinco, Jozy Altidore, Benoit Cheyrou, Collen Warner and Damien Perquis they still played very well against a strong Seattle side. The loss pushes them back to .500, at 11-4-11 on the season.

Dempsey's winning goal came off a fast break from the Seattle Sounders, the kind that torched Toronto all night. It was under similar circumstances to the first goal, where Dempsey found Obafemi Martins behind the Toronto defence. Eriq Zavaleta had the first goal of his career against his former club, the lone tally for Toronto FC.

Further analysis of the match will be up in the morning. Until then here is a replay of Eriq Zavaleta's first ever professional goal off of a stunning cross from Ashtone Morgan.
