For those waiting patiently until May for Toronto FC to play a home game, Toronto FC II might be just what the doctor ordered. After starting 2015 with an incredible nine game road trip, Toronto's USL affiliate would not play a home game until May 23. They would not play at their newly built home field, the Ontario Soccer Centre, until July 4.
This year, however, with no second phase of renovations to their stadium like the big club is undergoing, Toronto FC II will have a schedule this year that looks fairly normal. No ridiculously long road trip to start the season, and no ridiculously long homestand to end the year.
Instead of having to wait until late May, the club will play its home opener at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughan, Ont. on April 17 against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. This is the first of 15 home games that the club will play at the OSC in 2016, after using BMO Field as their home stadium for two matches last year.
The season kicks off for Toronto FC II on March 27 when they will meet New York Red Bulls II in New York. This is similar to the MLS club, who will also be starting their season with a road trip to be big apple to take on the Red Bulls. They then play their first rivalry match of the year on April 9 when they meet FC Montreal in Montreal.
They also have two home dates against Montreal on June 15 and August 28, who are the team they beat the most in their inaugural season. It is the only Canadian competition they will face this season, as they do not have a game against Vancouver Whitecaps 2 this year.
While it is nothing compared to last year, the club will still end the season with a solid homestand as five of its last six regular season games will be played at the OSC. They will play the Harrisburg City Islanders, New York Red Bulls II, FC Montreal, Charlotte Independence and Orlando City B in that time.
Toronto will play their first ever game against Orlando, who joined the league this year, on August 6 in Orlando. Other expansion sides they will meet for the first time include Bethlehem Steel FC at home on July 6 and FC Cincinnati at home on April 24.
Below is the club's full 2016 USL schedule. Game times are still to be determined, and will be announced at a later date.
