The biggest game in MLS is coming to Toronto - and this time, the home team will be a part of it.
Toronto FC have sealed their place in the MLS Cup final for the first time after beating the Montreal Impact 7-5 on aggregate in an incredible Eastern Conference final.
The Reds wrapped up their spot in the big one, where they will face the Western Conference champion Seattle Sounders, by beating the Impact 5-2 at BMO Field after extra time on Wednesday night.
Seattle will visit Toronto on Saturday, December 10 for the final as a result of TFC’s superior record in the regular season, during which they collected 53 points to the Sounders’ 48.
Prior to this season, Toronto had played one postseason game in their history - a 3-0 loss to Montreal in the 2015 knockout round.
But they have come to life in the 2016 playoffs, beating the Philadelphia Union and New York City convincingly before facing their rivals in the last four.
Montreal had the advantage after winning 3-2 at the Olympic Stadium in the first leg, but TFC became the first team to ever advance to the MLS Cup final by coming from behind at the halfway mark of the tie.
TFC have not yet announced details of when final tickets will go on sale. They are already available on re-sale websites, but prices are currently extortionate ahead of the official rates being revealed.
With an extra tier of seating currently in place at the top of the south stand, 35,000 fans will again pack in to see the climax of the 2016 season in 10 days’ time.
