VIDEO: Giovinco Scores Beauty to Become Toronto FC's All Time Leading MLS Goal Scorer

There seems to be no page in this history book that the atomic ant has not written his name on at this point.

That didn't take long. It took Sebastian Giovinco just 43 games to become Toronto FC's all-time leading goal scorer in MLS play. In the 37th minute of tonight's match, the Italian passed Dwayne De Rosario's previous record of 28 goals. The Canadian legend reached that total in 76 matches, almost double what Giovinco has played.

Giovinco touched a ball played by defender Damien Perquis past two Vancouver defenders before sliding the ball into the back of the net. The goal put a struggling Toronto FC back into the match, as they had allowed the first two goals early on in the game.

With the goal, the Italian has still been involved in all 11 times that Toronto has found the back of the net this season. He now has seven goals and 4 assists this season. All-time with the club, he has 29 goals and 20 assists.

The record is just the latest that Giovinco has broken. He already has the record for most goals in a season for the club, with the 22 he scored last year. The Italian also won a trio of awards last season, claiming the MLS Golden Boot, MLS MVP and the MLS Newcomer of the year award. He was the first Toronto FC player to win any of these awards.

He is well on his way to winning more silverware this season, and through the first third of the season is already a favourite to repeat as league MVP. He may need some more help from his teammates, however, if the club is to win any silverware this year as well.
