Toronto FC say there is no truth in a report in Dusseldorf newspaper the Rheinische Post linking them with a move for U.S. youth international goalkeeper Justin vom Steeg.
Vom Steeg signed a one-year deal with Fortuna Dusseldorf last summer that is yet to be extended by the 2. Bundesliga club. According to the Post, the 20-year-old has had offers from TFC, Minnesota United and expansion side Los Angeles FC, but the Reds have labelled the story bogus.
Vom Steeg was Fortuna’s third-choice goalkeeper last season behind ex-Bayern Munich man Michael Rensing and Lars Unnerstall. He played 13 games for their reserve team in the Regionalliga West, which is a regional division at the fourth level of the German league pyramid.
Prior to that, Vom Steeg attended UC Santa Barbara for one year having been the 22nd-ranked prospect nationally out of high school.
