Altidore out, Giovinco and Vazquez questionable for Montreal match

Toronto could be without its three best attacking players tomorrow

For the second game in a row Toronto FC might be without its two leading goalscorers. After missing Saturday’s game against the LA Galaxy, Jozy Altidore has been ruled out of tomorrow’s match against the Montreal Impact.

At training today, Toronto FC head coach Greg Vanney also declared Sebastian Giovinco as questionable for the clash against the club’s biggest rivals. The Italian’s availability will depend upon a scan he is set to receive this afternoon.

The bad news on the injury front doesn’t end there either for the league’s top team. Midfielder Victor Vazquez is also questionable for tomorrow’s match with a slight fever. It goes without saying that his absence, combined with the aforementioned pair, would significantly weaken Toronto’s attack.

These developments will be a little more well received by the Montreal Impact, who visit BMO Field tomorrow in need of a win. Montreal currently sits six points outside of the playoffs with six games remaining.

The odds are still stacked against them, however. Montreal haven’t won against Toronto yet this season, and nobody has been able to beat the league leading reds at home.

Toronto also proved this weekend against LA Galaxy that they can win without their best players. With Altidore and Giovinco not making the trip to California, Toronto still defeated the Galaxy 4-0.

It might be a few more games before the club can again field a full squad. This weekend they travel to New England, where they likely won’t want to risk some of their ailing players on the turf.
