According to several reports from Brazilian media, Toronto FC are in the process of acquiring 20-year-old Sao Paulo FC goalkeeper Lucas Paes Souza on a one-year loan.
Bom dia a todos! São Paulo emprestou Lucas Paes ao Toronto FC por um ano, com opção de compra. Denis, do sub-23, é o novo quarto goleiro do elenco profissional. #GazetaTricolor

(Roughly translated, the tweet above reads “Good morning all! Sao Paulo have loaned Lucas Paes to Toronto FC for a year, with an option to buy. Denis, from the under-23 team, will be [Sao Paulo’s] fourth goalkeeper.”)
Paes was apparently promoted to Sao Paulo’s senior squad this past season, but he didn’t make an appearance with the side. This would be the second consecutive year that TFC took on a young player struggling to crack Sao Paulo’s lineup, with Auro Jr. joining the Reds for the 2018 season — whether or not that move becomes permanent will probably be revealed in the coming months. It seems the two clubs have a strong professional relationship.
What this would mean for the rest of TFC’s keepers is unclear, especially with so little information about Paes’ abilities available. The future is uncertain for both Alex Bono and Clint Irwin; either (or both) could be moved in this off-season. This move, if the rumour is indeed true, would surely be just the first drop in the bucket of what’s likely to be a busy winter for the Reds.
Hey, remember last time TFC took on a Brazilian keeper on loan?
