Oh, the silly season. We know this one could be particularly long and intriguing for Toronto FC after the way that their 2018 season concluded. Even before the year had ended rumours started popping up about who may, or may not, be back next season.
Well we now have our first rumour of the offseason, and it is a bit of a surprising one. Outlets out of Brazil are reporting that Toronto FC is looking to bring in a young Brazilian keeper from Sao Paulo on a year long loan.
Now there are many positions on the shopping list for Toronto FC armchair GMs this offseason, and goalkeeper was probably further down the list. Both Alex Bono and Clint Irwin had off years but have shown in the past that they are very capable MLS goalkeepers.
However, whether or not these rumours are true it will be very interesting to see what direction Toronto FC decides to go between the sticks this offseason. We discussed just that on this week’s Footy Talks podcast.
James Grossi of MLSSoccer.com joined the show with other topics including Marky Delgado’s continued role within the United States national team.
We also talked about the MLS Cup playoffs, the USL final, the Canadian men’s under-20 side, Marc Dos Santos’ hiring in Vancouver and the Mississauga MetroStars season opener.
