The 2019 MLS season will see the arrival of yet another expansion team in the form of FC Cincinnati. The newly minted MLS squad from Ohio will continue to bolster their roster via expansion picks today beginning at 2 p.m. Toronto FC fans will be all too familiar with the expansion drafts, having seen one of our own depart in last year’s rendition.
If you need a refresher, take note of Raheem Edwards, who was selected by LAFC in last year’s draft. Edwards was selected with the fifth and final pick of the draft and immediately traded to Montreal and subsequently Chicago. The saving grace of having Edwards selected in last year’s draft is that it excuses Toronto from having to endure the draft again this year.

With so many roster changes already occurring, it is a small saving grace that Toronto is exempt from taking part in the lottery that is the expansion draft.
On the flip side of things, there are some quality names up for grabs in this year’s draft and it may prove interesting to keep an eye on some former Reds to see if their number is called. A few former Toronto FC players who are currently on other teams and therefore exposed in the draft include: Nicolas Hasler, Steven Beitashour, Joe Bendik, and Quillan Roberts among others.
It should prove an entertaining ride for another expansion side but for as bad as Toronto’s 2018 was and everything they lost, I can guarantee you they will not lose any players in this draft.
