Rate the Reds: Chivas 1-2 Toronto FC (4-2 pen.)

Anybody else hate penalties?

A wonderful game of football, and a horrific ending. Toronto FC finally won a game in Mexico tonight, but they lost the ensuing penalty shootout 4-2 after Jonathan Osorio and Michael Bradley missed their spot kicks. This sport is cruel.

It was a pretty impressive, gutsy performance for the most part from TFC, who battled back after giving up the first goal to level the tie on aggregate. Regardless of an anticlimactic result, that’s a night for them to be proud of.

Sebastian Giovinco and Jozy Altidore scored great goals, and TFC were probably the better team on the night. Still, Marky Delgado is going to be haunted by that shot he missed in the 91st minute for a long, looooong time.

I have a feeling Michael Bradley might get a lot of your ire here, but it’s really not deserved in my opinion. He was forced into playing centre-back, and I thought he did a pretty great job there. Let the body of work speak for itself, not the bottled penalty.

It was, don’t forget, an unbelievable run through the CONCACAF Champions League for TFC. They accomplished things no other MLS team has ever done, and they fought right down to the bitter end. And they’ll be back.

Anyway, have at it.
