We are now only two sleeps away from soccer’s version of Christmas. The best teams in the world have convened in Russia and will battle it out over the next few weeks to see which nation can claim soccer’s biggest crown.
Will it be Brazil, who recently seem to have regained their traditional swagger? Can Germany become the first team since Brazil to repeat at World Cup winners? Can France finally click together and get the job done at a major tournament? What about Spain, Belgium?
James Sharman of Sportsnet joins the show from Russia this week on the Footy Talks podcast to preview all of the groups in the tournament. Sharman also provides his picks for breakout player of the tournament, the group stage match you can’t miss and which of the aforementioned five teams he thinks will lift the trophy at the end.
He also talks about World Cup voting, which will take place early tomorrow morning and reveal whether Canada will host men’s World Cup games on home soil for the first time. All that and more on a special edition of the Footy Talks podcast.
