On October 15, Canada has a chance to make a big statement to the rest of Concacaf. Playing the United States at BMO Field in the Concacaf Nations League is the perfect platform for this young group to demonstrate their potential in full.

The match is also crucial for ranking points as Canada tries to claw their way into the top six in the region to earn a more favourable route to the 2020 World Cup in Qatar.

In advance of that game, John Herdman named his roster today. The group is highlighted by a pair of debutants, most notably 22-year-old Stephan Eustaquio who plays for Cruz Azul in Liga MX.

After being capped seven times by the Portuguese U-21 side, Eustaquio announced his commitment to Canada in February. However, a serious leg injury suffered in his first game for Cruz Azul meant Eustaquio is only just now getting back on the field.

Also of note is the second ever call-up from the Canadian Premier League as FC Edmonton’s Amir Didic was named to the roster. Didic has played twice for Canada’s U-23 side, last taking part in 2017.

After missing the pair of Nation’s League matches played against Cuba last month, captain Scott Arfield is back with the team, while Doneil Henry received the call despite the fact that he will be suspended for the match against the States at BMO after being shown a red card against Cuba away.

Atiba Hutchinson, meanwhile, who also missed out last month through injury concerns has not been called up for this match. Neither was Cyle Larin, who despite his divisive nature among national team fans has done quite well since being loaned to the Belgian league.

For Toronto FC, they’ll once again be represented by defender Richie Laryea, midfielder Jonathan Osorio, and midfielder Liam Fraser was a late addition to the team after Will Johnson (personal) was forced to withdraw.

The full roster is below:

Goalkeepers: Milan Borjan, Maxime Crepeau, Jayson Leutwiler

Defenders: Derek Cornelius, Amer Didic, Doneil Henry, Steven Vitoria, Sam Adekugbe, Juan Cordova, Richie Laryea, Kamal Miller.

Midfielders: Scott Arfield, Stephen Eustaquio, Liam Fraser, Mark-Anthony Kaye, Jonathan Osorio, Samuel Piette, Russell Teibert

Forwards: Jonathan David, Alphonso Davies, Junior Hoilett, Liam Millar, Lucas Cavallini
