Toronto FC have announced today that the club has traded the rights to striker Juan Agudelo to Major League Soccer expansion side Inter Miami CF in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft.
Juan Agudelo — who Toronto FC selected earlier in the month in Stage Two of the MLS Re-Entry Draft — will not be signing with the Reds. Instead, the 27-year-old will sign within Inter Miami, which was reported earlier in the week.
TFC had the sole ability to negotiate a new contract with Agudelo after the MLS veteran’s deal — in which he made $605,000 last season — expired at the end of the year.
However, since Toronto were reportedly unable to come to terms with the attacker, the Reds parlayed those negotiation rights to Miami and picked up a draft pick next off-season.
TFC did not give anything up to select Agudelo, so all in all, this appears to be another positive under-the-radar move for the Reds.
