Footy Talks Podcast: Is the Champions League worth trying to salvage?

Is a miracle worth the risk?

After narrowly missing out on winning the Concacaf Champions League last year, Toronto FC now look like they’ve horribly tripped on the first hurdle this time around. After a 4-0 loss to Independiente in Panama, there doesn’t look like much of a way back for the reds.

So, how much should they put into the match? On a cold night at BMO Field in a setting that caused the team so many injuries last season, how much of their roster should they risk. Jozy Altidore may be fit, but should he get any minutes?

It’s a question that Greg Vanney and staff will certainly be asking this week ahead of the club’s MLS opener away to the Philadelphia Union next Saturday. The question was also debated on this week’s edition of the Footy Talks podcast.

Michael Leach of 680 News joined the show to reflect on one of the most disappointing nights in club history, and where the team goes from here. The guys also talk about Greg Vanney, some debutants, and the clear holes in the current roster.

On top of this, he and Mitchell Tierney discuss the off seasons for both the Montreal Impact and Vancouver Whitecaps and what we can expect from both of those teams this season. Finally, the talk about a couple of big news and notes out of the Canadian Premier League.
