Tab Ramos, the US Under-20 national team coach, announced his squad for the upcoming FIFA U-20 World Cup on Friday.
On the roster is Toronto FC forward Ayo Akinola, who has seen an increase in his playing time this season.
In 230 minutes in MLS action in 2019, already more than five times the number of league minutes he played last year, Akinola has scored his first (and so far only) MLS goal, and has put in a few excellent performances. His best game this season was in TFC's home opener against the New England Revolution, when he scored the aforementioned goal, and made an excellent run in the later stages of the match to create space for Jozy Altidore's winner.
Akinola has already played 11 times for the US U-20 national team, and has put up some incredible performances. In the 2018 CONCACAF U-20 Championship, Akinola played 8 times and scored 7 goals, and in three U-20 international friendlies he has scored twice.
