Predicting Toronto FC’s lineup against Real Salt Lake

With another player added to the injured list, who will get the start in Utah?

MLS: D.C. United at Toronto FC Dan Hamilton-USA TODAY Sports

After Chris Mavinga suffered an injury on Wednesday night, Greg Vanney's options are once again limited.

As has seemingly been the case over the last year or so, everytime a player comes back from an injury, another one goes down. This time it was Drew Moor in exchange for Chris Mavinga.

Because of the short staff, especially in defence, Vanney can only really play with 4 at the back without putting Michael Bradley at centre back, so I've gone with a 4-4-1-1 formation.

Goalkeeper

Alex Bono

After Quentin Westberg has started a few games in a row, I think he gets a night off to give Alex Bono a start. Westberg has been good, but Bono was excellent against Atlanta, despite what the scoreline suggested, so I think he should get another start sooner rather than later.

Defenders

Auro Jr., Eriq Zavaleta, Drew Moor, Justin Morrow

As mentioned above, Greg Vanney doesn't have a whole lot of choice at the back right now.

With both Chris Mavinga and Laurent Ciman out of action, he's pretty much forced to go with the pairing of Drew Moor and Eriq Zavaleta. Both of them were excellent against D.C. on Wednesday, and will be hoping to continue that good form in this one.

Midfielders

Nick DeLeon, Marky Delgado, Michael Bradley, Jonathan Osorio, Alejandro Pozuelo

This has been Greg Vanney's go-to starting group in midfield since Alejandro Pozuelo showed up. He'll need to get some rest at some point, but it seems like Greg Vanney is just going to ride his hot hand until he burns out.

Forward

Jordan Hamilton

Jozy Altidore is expected to play a part in this game, but I highly doubt he gets the start. My guess is that he gets 20-30 minutes off the bench, and if TFC are winning, maybe even less than that.

As WTR’s own Tej Sahota said on Twitter the other day, these injuries could continue to pile on for Altidore if he is rushed back, so they’ll have to be really careful with him.
