Footy Talks: Has MLS figured out Alejandro Pozuelo?

Plus a look at both the Men’s and Women’s Canadian national teams ahead of a big summer.

MLS: Toronto FC at Real Salt Lake Jeff Swinger-USA TODAY Sports

Alejandro Pozuelo’s red card this past Saturday seemed inevitable. Frustrated with his team’s performance in Sandy, Utah, the Spanish midfielder showed it as he flew into several reckless challenges. Eventually, a second yellow saw him off the field. He will also miss Sunday’s game against San Jose.

A week off might be good, because it hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing for Pozuelo since he burst into the league with 4 goals and 5 assists during his first four games. He has followed that up with only one goal and an assist in the next six.

Without Jozy Altidore, teams have quickly figured out that Pozuelo is Toronto FC’s only significant threat at the moment, and have been quick to mark him out of games.

In that sense it is hard to know exactly whether teams have figured him out, or if he doesn’t have enough else around him to truly break down oppositions. Mitchell Tierney and Devang Desai chat about this on The Footy Talks podcast.

Also discussed are both the men’s and women’s Canadian national teams ahead of the Gold Cup and World Cup respectively. The guys talk about Canada’s 40 man roster, and what the depth chart looks like going forward.
