Sebastian Giovinco takes in Toronto FC game from president’s suite

Looks like some bridges have been mended.

In a fairly astonishing about-face, it seems any bad blood between Sebastian Giovinco and Toronto FC has begun to dissipate. The diminutive Italian attended his former club’s match against the San Jose Earthquakes on Sunday, taking it all in from club president Bill Manning’s private suite.

Giovinco was shown on the jumbotron just a minute into the game with the caption “Grazie Seba.” The club’s all-time leading goalscorer was greeted with a very warm ovation by the BMO Field crowd, and south-end supporters unfurled their own banner thanking the Atomic Ant.

Seba left TFC this past off-season for the warmer climes of Saudi Arabia, after what seemed like a fairly ugly breakup. The ripple effect continued to be felt several months after his departure, with the drama surrounding a member of TFC’s training staff.

Giovinco scored four goals in 10 appearances for Al-Hilal, who seem to have finished their league season. They’re not in action again until August, when they play Al-Ahli in the AFC Champions League round of 16.

Giovinco was also pictured courtside at the Raptors game last night, leading some to believe he could make an appearance at BMO Field today.

It was certainly a shame that the club had never really paid tribute to its best-ever player, so it’s nice to see that the relationship has been mended and that Seba’s contribution to the club is being acknowledged.
