It’s officially June, which means the Women’s World Cup is just 10 days away. On June 10, Canada kicks off the group stage of the tournament against Cameroon in Montpellier, France.
After all the hype around the team going into a home World Cup in 2015, a young Canadian side goes into this World Cup a little bit under the radar. But after going unbeaten in their last eight games, this is also a Canadian side ready to make some noise.
Sandra Prusina, a women’s soccer contributor to Sportsnet, joined the Footy Talks podcast this week to preview the tournament from a Canadian perspective. She also discussed the incredible start for Cavalry FC, and how the team is being perceived in Calgary.
Then, Benedict Rhodes of Waking the Red joins the show to talk about Toronto FC’s recent slumps, and perhaps some bright spots in their recent performances. He and Mitchell Tierney also discuss Canada’s men’s national team roster for the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Benedict has also been keeping an eye on Toronto FC II all season, so he talks about what John Herdman sees in Noble Okello, the surprise inclusion in Canada’s Gold Cup roster.
As always, leaving a rating, review and feedback helps us out in a big way.
