Tomorrow the Canadian men’s national team kicks off its 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup campaign against Martinique.

They do so with high expectations, as one of the best Canadian sides in over a decade. The team has gone undefeated under John Herdman, but will now have much bigger tests ahead of them.

Mitchell Tierney and Daniel Squizzato of MLSSoccer.com and CanPL.ca preview the Gold Cup for Canada on this week’s Footy Talks podcast. They chat about the unique solutions John Herdman might use for his defensive issues, expectations for the team and who are some of the other contenders in the region.

They also chat about the Canadian women’s national team and what we can get out of their narrow 1-0 win over Cameroon. Squizzato also chats about the media perception of the team, and how it might be hurting the women’s game in this country.

Finally, they wrap up with a quick exchange about the Voyageurs Cup, and the upcoming game between Cavalry and the Vancouver Whitecaps.
