In news that should come as no surprise to anyone here, seeing as it’s been churning in the rumour mill for near a week, Terrence Boyd is leaving Toronto FC. The club made the official announcement today, they have parted ways with the player by mutual consent.
Things never quite clicked for Boyd during his brief tenure with the club, even his arrival was mistimed, coming so close to the departure of club legend Sebastian Giovinco in what can only be described as the king of all off-seasons.
Boyd only logged 339 minutes of MLS action, scoring no goals. he made his debut for the side in CONCACAF Champions league play, and sent a penalty kick into orbit. From there he saw his opportunities dwindle in tandem with the patience of TFC fandom.
Boyd recently got married and they are expecting his second child. His young family is based in Germany, so news that he has signed with Hallescher FC in 3. Bundesliga should also come as no surprise.
Terrence Boyd himself took to twitter to thank the fans, his teammates, and the organization:
That is one classy exit from one classy guy. For myriad reasons, it just didn’t work out for him in the 6ix. We wish him well in his next chapter.
Boyd’s departure takes just over $200,000 in cap space off the books for TFC, and it looks like the club plan to use that towards acquiring a new player within this transfer window.
Keep it locked on WTR for more on this as the news manifests.
