Footy Talks: Previewing the final stretch for Toronto FC

Can the reds not just survive, but thrive, in their final nine games

MLS: Canadian Championship-Ottawa Fury FC at Toronto FC Dan Hamilton-USA TODAY Sports

With just nine games remaining in the the 2019 MLS season, Toronto FC still have a lot of work to do if they want to avoid missing the playoffs for a second consecutive season. Currently in ninth, they are tied on points with the Montreal Impact and Orlando City on the playoff line.

The good news for the team, is that the final quarter of their schedule is relatively favourable. They play against five opponents who are currently well outside of the playoff picture, as well as mostly Eastern Conference opposition.

However, as discussed on this week’s Footy Talks podcast, these next few games shouldn’t be just about survival for Toronto FC. This team has all the talent to be one of the top sides in the Eastern Conference, and the hope is that they will play like that down the stretch.

Jeffrey P. Nesker and Martyn Bailey of Waking the Red hopped on the show this week to preview Toronto FC’s final nine games. The guys also discussed the new MLS Playoff format and the Canadian Championship.
