Preview
Unbeaten in their last seven matches in all competitions, Toronto FC will take on Eastern Conference leaders — and the hottest team in Major League Soccer — New York City FC Wednesday night in the Bronx.
For irony sake, the last time TFC found themselves on the losing side of a match was on August 3, in New York, against the Red Bulls — a frustrating 2-0 defeat. Since then, they’ve strung together five straight MLS league performances without a loss, capped off by Saturday’s impressive 5-1 thumping of expansion side Cincinnati FC.
The home team has only lost one time this season at Yankee Stadium, a 1-0 defeat to the Portland Timbers on July 7, and enters Wednesday night’s game winners of five-in-a-row. Their most recent win came at the expense of the New England Revolution, Saturday at home: a controversial 2-1 result which saw two VAR decisions go the way of the Boys in Blue.
If Toronto FC were going to play NYCFC during this hot stretch, there isn’t a much better time than now, as the Eastern Conference leaders will be without seven players on Wednesday, including Maxi Moralez who’s suspended for today’s match.
The Reds, meanwhile, are expected to have a healthy Jozy Altidore, while Justin Morrow and Chris Mavinga are listed as questionable.
Jeffrey P. Nesker has you for today’s match thread, as we hope to see the Reds steal three points tonight. Make sure to get your predictions in for our Prediction League by kickoff if you haven’t already!
