Toronto — Montreal. Two teams, two franchises, two cities that do not like each other.
And when they take the pitch Wednesday afternoon, it will be no different as both of these sides want to earn the distinction as Canada’s best team.
The Reds are rolling into Wednesday afternoon confident, not only because their unbeaten in their last nine matches, but also because they’ve won the last three Canadian Championships — including in 2017 over the aforementioned Montreal Impact.
Montreal, meanwhile, may put a little bit more emphasis on this one because of their recent struggles in the league. They have their best chance to win a trophy over these two legs (tonight and next Wednesday at BMO Field) as they sit in eighth in the East — on the outside of the playoff picture looking in.
However, with Toronto FC’s congested September schedule (they play LAFC on Saturday) — and their desire to excel in the league — it’s possible that Montreal sees a weaker side in the first leg Wednesday night.
